Provenance: With an unidentified antique shop, San Anselmo, California, 1985; to private collection, New Hampshire, 1985.

Note: (1) The address given in the inscription was that of Schafer's home and studio from 1886 through 1904. City directories list his son Otto as a "scenic artist" dated between the years 1896 and 1904. (2) This painting is accompanied with a second watercolor of the same size, [Mountain lake 1 (Lake Tahoe?)].
