Inscription: l/l "F Schafer" in artist's characteristic block-letter hand, descending downward along the bottom edge of a boulder
Verso: said to be titled but the inscription is currently covered
Provenance: in private collection, McMinnville and Portland, Oregon circa 1890; by descent in the family to private collection, Portland, Oregon by 2008.
Citations: Personal communication with the owner, 2008
Site: The Three Sisters mountains, Oregon. The secondary cone on the right-most mountain suggests that it is South Sister, making this a view from the west side. The river is probably the MacKenzie River.
Legend: The painting was acquired by the present owner's great grandfather, a dentist, as payment for dental services.
