| Note: | This sketch bears an unusual signature, in what appears to be the artist's characteristic hand used in studio paintings, but omitting the given name initial and incised into the wet paint, rather than added as an extra layer. The signature may have been added later, which raises questions about its attribution.. However, it so closely resembles Schafer's other paintings of this subject that the attribution seems secure. |
