| Site: | The Pacific Coast, somewhere near Monterey, California, but probably not the place known today as "Cypress Point". |
| Description: | A grove of Monterey Cypress trees lean from the wind in a field of yellow grass on a point above a blue-green ocean inlet. Waves break on the rocks at the end of the point and roll in to a beach at the left. In the right foreground is a sand dune with patches of red-flowered beach bushes. The ocean in the distance is greenish-grey; a sailboat stands against the horizon under a grey cloudy sky, while four or five gulls circle above. (From a color photograph.) |
