Size: 24 x 16 in (61 x 41 cm)
Inscription: l/l "F. Schafer", in the artist's characteristic block-letter hand, along the shoreline

Reproductions: William K. Dick photo #128 (color, 1972)
Site: A view to the East up Yosemite Valley, California, with Sentinel Rock in the center.
Description: The brown outline of Sentinel Rock stands in the center against a hazy bright sky. Beyond it on the left is seen the dim outline of distant cliffs. A steep, sunlit slope climbs to the right in front of the rock; in front of that is a dark shadowed forest on the valley floor. A river flows from the lower center of the painting to cover the entire front edge; on a point on the right bank is a tepee and other fixtures of a small camp. To the right of the tepee is a small broadleaf tree, and still farther to the right a dead tree stands with branches in a wide Y. On the left bank are brighter trees, with one conifer reaching up to the sky. In the left foreground, rocks line the banks of the river. (From a color photograph.)
Identification: Assigned, descriptive title.
