| Site: | A view looking East, up Yosemite Valley, California, from along the Madera road, in the area near Artist's Point, with El Capitan to the left, Cathedral Rocks and Bridal Veil Fall on the right, and Half Dome silhouetted against the sky in the distance through the haze. |
| Description: | Tiny figures of a man and a child stand on the road near the center, talking with a woman who carries a back pack (a papoose?) seated on a small rock next to a large boulder; each figure holds a walking stick. Far below, the bright ribbon of the Merced river winds through the bottom of the valley. Two dead tree trunks sprawl across some large boulders at the left. The entire picture is very light and bright; it has tremendous depth. (From a color photograph.) |
| Identification: | Descriptive title as used in the 1979 sale catalog. The Early California and Western Art Research index identifies the slide with the 5 March 1979 sale and the Fresno exhibition; a later ECWAR slide identifies the painting as being in the hands of the collector. The 5 March 1979 sale catalog gives the size as 16 x 24 inches. |
