Inscription: Signed l/l "F.Schafer" in the artist's characteristic block-printing hand.
Verso: On upper frame in chalk and in ink "10135.2" On backing board "#10135.2", sticker of the Louisiana State Museum, not legible in the photograph. On the canvas in white chalk "GlenK", the roman numeral "III", and the title "THREE BROTHERS / YOSEMITE V**" (indistinct letters at the end, maybe "AL") in black brush in a hand not the artist's. On the stretcher bar a very faint pencil inscription ending in "California" and "Property of R***".
Provenance: Deaccessioned October 2020 by Louisiana State Museum, New Orleans; sold 8 October 2020 for $310 + 28% by Neal Auction Company, New Orleans as lot 59 in "UNRESERVED @Neal - LA State & Mobile Museums" sale; to private collection, Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Site: The Three Brothers, a rock formation in Yosemite Valley, California, viewed across the Merced River.
Identification: Title from verso inscription on the lining canvas (possibly transcribed from a now-covered inscription by the artist). In the available photograph the museum sticker is not readable.
