The paintings indexed here all have a similar composition: they depict a cove along the shore of a forested lake (or, in one case, a cove along a river). There may be mountains beyond, but the primary focus is the cove itself, which sometimes includes a fisherman, boat, or camp and frequently a sunset. Other scenes depicting water can be found in the indexes of paintings of coastal and marine scenes and mountain streams through a forest.
