Description: | A bright Springtime forest scene, with no sky visible, in which a gentle, blue stream flows forward from the center, to the left, and finally fills the center front of the painting. On the right, a gnarled tree grows at the base of a brownish slope to fill the entire right half of the painting; the left bank is occupied with bright green shrubbery and low trees against a background of darker green forest blending to blue in the distant center. (From a color photograph.) |
Note: | Based on the similarity of size and appearance, this painting is probably intended to be a pendant with [Alpine scene] |
Identification: | The Inventory of American Paintings lists as its informants Nelson-Rees and Coran, proprietors of WIM Fine Arts. The Inventory lists the painting under the title Morning in the woods (Morgen in Walde), replacing "im" (in dem) with "in" in the German form. |
