Description: | El Capitan and the cliffs beyond it are seen through a haze below a cloudy sky. A shallow river, covering the entire width of the painting at the bottom edge, flows gently away and disappears into forest in the lower center. Three tall conifers stand on the left river bank, two more on the right, framing the scene; a few other isolated conifers stand and lean some ways down the stream; there is forest on both sides beyond. Downed snags, brush, and boulders fill the right foreground. (From a color photograph.) |
