Site: | The profile of two peaks closely resembles that of Mount Rainier and Little Tahoma, in Washington state, but there is a possibility that it could be Mount Shasta, California, viewed from the southwest. |
Note: | 1. A family photograph dated 1908 is said to show this painting hanging on a wall in the background. 2. The 13 February 2008 eBay offering gives the size as 22 x 30 in but shows an image with proportions of 22 x 36. 3. Two paintings with this title were offered as lots 41 and 45 in the catalog of a 22 September 1882 auction in San Francisco, and a painting with this title was exhibited in the Mechanics' Institute Eighteenth Industrial Exhibition in San Francisco in 1883. Unfortunately, there is not enough information in either of those catalogs to either include or exclude the possibility that it is this painting. |
Identification: | Assigned title of unknown origin. The three sales all came with images of the same painting. |
Other title(s): | Mount Shasta (Matthew's Galleries and Uno Langmann Limited) |
