Site: A view looking East, up Yosemite Valley, California, from along the Madera road in the area known today as "Tunnel view", with El Capitan to the left, Cathedral Rocks and Bridalveil Fall on the right.
Description: A forested, glacial valley floor lies below. Distant canyon walls are enveloped in haze. Bright boulders in the foreground beside a dirt road, and the bright sky, contrast with dark canyon walls and trees. (From a monochrome photograph.)
Identification: Descriptive title of unknown origin as used in the 1981 sale catalog. The two Inventory of American Paintings entries cite the same Sotheby sale; the entries appear to be duplicates.
