| Site: | A view of Mount Shasta but probably not from the McCloud River, which is too far east of the stratovolcano for it to have this profile. Either it is a composite of a view from the Dunsmuir area and a valley from along the McCloud river or it may be a view from the McCloud arm of Shasta Lake. |
| Note: | 1. The painting bears a strong resemblence to Morning on Mount Shasta, 14,400 feet high from Shasta Lake, California. 2. A painting with the same title was offered as lot 51 in the catalog of a July 1885 auction in Victoria, British Columbia, and also as lot 26 in the catalog of a May 1886 exhibition and auction sale in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory, but the information in those catalogs is insufficient to either include or exclude the possibility that either of those is the same painting. |
