Description: An uncontrolled Barbizon-style forest interior. On a gentle slope up to the right stands the light brown trunk of a tall, straight tree; behind it a second, darker tree leans precariously to the left, behind that stands another tall tree. The ground below is covered with green grass and a few red wild flowers; a little farther away are dark green bushes and beyond that brown brush. The entire scene is quite loosely sketched, in browns and greens. (From a color photograph.)
Note: Descriptive title of unknown origin, as reported by Walter Nelson-Rees of WIM Fine Arts. Based on the similar composition, mood, and size, this painting appears to be a pendant to [In the woods, with figure].
In index(es): Title list, Barbizon-style forest interiors, watercolor and gouache paintings
