Size: 24 x 16 in (61 x 41 cm)
Inscription: Signed l/r "FSchafer", initials conjoined in a monogram, in the artist's characteristic block-lettering hand.
Verso: In pencil on back of masonite, "Ne.." (final letters illegible), "45", and "WE".
Provenance: "Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection"; sold 27 January 2024 for $2400 + 30% by Case Antiques, Inc., Knoxville, Tennessee, as lot 487 in "Winter Fine Art and Antiques" auction.

Site: Standing on the North (Washington) side of the Columbia river looking East toward Beacon Rock. The geographic feature in the painting was named "Beacon Rock" by Lewis and Clark in 1805, but it was known as "Castle Rock" from 1811 until 1916, when the United States Board of Geographic Names restored the "Beacon Rock" name.
