[photo] Indian camp in the forest
Photo credit: William K. Dick, 1980
Size: 20 x 30 in (51 x 76 cm)
Inscription: not apparent in photograph
Provenance: With Garzoli Gallery, San Francisco, 1980.
Reproductions: William K. Dick photo #155 (color, May 1980)
Attribution: The texture of the forest is unlike that usually seen in paintings by Schafer--one can almost pick out every needle on each tree. The horse has slender, delicate legs, one of which is bent in a walk, again a level of detail almost never seen in Schafer paintings.
Description: Below several large conifers, the tops of two tepees are seen behind a felled tree covered with brush. To the right of the tepees are two standing dead tree trunks, one of which leans to the left. In the center, an Indian wearing a headdress rides a white horse; a second figure walks at the side. (From a color photograph.)
