Site: | Looking East into Yosemite Valley, California, with El Capitan on the distance on the left and Bridalveil Fall in the distance on the right. The vantage point is across a rise which appears to be somewhat above the valley floor. |
Description: | A crisp foreground with great contrasts in brightness depicts a gentle slope on both sides of a wide valley, against the hazy mid-range and background of cliffs, sky, and valley. A pair of conifers stands in the center against the distant canyon walls. Wildflowers fill the right foreground, with a bright clearing just beyond and conifers further away on the right; the falls land behind a rise. In the middle distance, just to the left of the falls is a dead but standing tree. On left side of river are bright rocks with dark forest beyond. In the distance Sentinel Rock and Half Dome are visible through the haze. (From a monochrome photograph.) |
Note: | The text accompanying the Old Print Shop illustration describes the signature as "Fred Schaffer, 1884". |
