Site: | A view East through Yosemite Valley, California, at Sentinel Rock. |
Description: | The silhouette of Sentinel rock stands against a twilight cloudy sky, viewed from a point in the middle of a river, which flows directly toward the viewer. On the right bank is an encampment with three fires, two tepees, and figures beside each. Smoke rises from two of the fires. Driftwood is stranded on both banks of the river, brush grows on the left bank, while there are steep hills higher to the right. (From a color photograph.) |

The Inventory of American Paintings entry cites the Maxwell Galleries, Ltd. exhibition catalog, which provides only the title and size. The Early California and Western Art Research index and the photograph by William K. Dick both identify the Maxwell Galleries, Ltd. exhibition. |
