Description: | A view past a boulder beside a winding stream flowing through pools surrounded with small stones. The view encompasess a dark, flat valley on the right; two trees on the left are silhouetted against the sky with a yellow crescent moon above. The sky is very orange-red near the horizon, shading through yellows to almost blue at the top. Several birds fly across the center. A campfire in the distance is reflected twice in the pools. (From the painting, 11 November 1989.) |
Note: | Based on the similar composition, sequential number verso, and identical size and mounting method, this painting appears to be a pendant to Autumn in the Catskills. |
Identification: | The first two words of the title were obscured by a strip of paper that was irreversibly glued to the back of the supporting cardboard. They were read by removing the strip and the outermost layer of the cardboard, and wetting the cardboard to make it transparent. |
