A (probably) German artist who signs "F. Schäfer"

Two oil paintings acquired in Germany, one in 1925, the second in the 1970s by a different collector, bear the signature "F. Schäfer" in a hand quite different from that of Frederick F. Schafer. The subject, style, palette, and composition are also quite different. Nothing has been discovered about this F. Schäfer.
