Description: | Six closely clustered tepees stand on a gentle grassy slope up to the right, surrounded by a score of Indians performing domestic activities. Nearby, a woman carries a child, another a papoose, a third walks with a child, a fourth sits. Above on the right are cliffs, behind a grove of trees. Beyond on the left is a deep valley, with a high mountain range on the other side. (From the photographs.) |

Identification: | Descriptive title of unknown origin, from the 1996 sale catalog. The 1984 catalog spells the artist's name "Schater", uses the title Indian encampment, and gives the size as 36 x 46 inches, but the photographs are of the same painting. |
