Description: | A view through a small valley across a lake (which does not dominate the scene) to a low forest, two or three low ridges, and a high snow-covered mountain ridge on the other side of the lake. On the right edge of the near shore is a steep, bright rocky cliff with a pointed top; the slope behind it is so steep that only a few trees cling to it. On the left is a triple-peaked grove of conifers--left tall, middle taller, right tallest--silhouetted against the sky with two snags standing further to the right and another steep cliff climbing up the left edge of the painting. In front of the grove are two boulders criss-crossed with downed snags; the immediate foreground is a grassy slope with many wildflowers that at the right drops down to a creek bottom. There are a few clouds in the sky. (From a monochrome photograph.) |
