Description: | Under a grey, cloudy sky a short, bushy tree stands on the left amidst several boulders, of which several more stand in the shallows of a lake. A snag with several branches hangs across two boulders just above the water. Wildflowers dot the grassy shore under the tree. In the distance more forest is seem dimly across the lake. (From a color photograph.) |
Note: | 1. This painting may bear some relation to Evening on Silver Lake, California (attributed) 2. There are a half-dozen bodies of water named "Silver Lake" in California. Another painting of the same scene as this one has the title Silver Lake below Lake Tahoe, California, which potentially identifies the correct "Silver Lake". However, that identification is unconfirmed. 3. Paintings with this title have appeared in at least three 19th century auction catalogs but without enough information to either include or exclude the possibility that one of them is this painting. See Paintings known only by title for details. |
