Description: | Sentinel Rock provides an elegant backdrop for a placid river scene. The sky is cloud-filled and the mountains in the distance beyond Sentinel Rock are hazy. At the left edge of the painting, a conifer stand on the shore frames the picture On the right a point covered with brush and wildflowers has one or two small trees. In a further riverbank in the middle distance is an Indian encampment with tepees and two figures. (From the painting, 21 July 1998) |
