| Attribution: | It does not seem likely that this painting is by Frederick Ferdinand Schafer. The draftsmanship is much more precise than Schafer's usual style, especially of the detail on the nearby rocks as well as the town on the far shore. The landscape is immaculately clean, lacking the debris that Schafer usually includes and the mirror-like reflections in the water are atypical. The canvas size is unusual. For these reasons, this painting is indexed only in questioned attributions and is not included in the Grand Tour. |
