Note: | Despite saying that the auction is "tomorrow", this clipping was published on the day of the auction. This clipping seems to be based on a press release, perhaps written by Schafer's auctioneer, C.P. Troy, or maybe even by Schafer himself, that was used several times in conjunction with auction sales held in the winter and spring of 1886/1887, with minor variations to account for date, venue, and painting titles. This example appeared three times in the Los Angeles Herald on December 13, 14, and 15 1886 in conjunction with an auction sale in Los Angeles on those dates. A second example appeared on Wednesday, 9 March 1887, in (San Jose, California) The Evening News in conjunction with an auction sale in San Jose, California, on March 11 and 12 1887, and a third example appeared in the Tuesday, 12 April 1887, Sacramento Daily Record-Union in conjunction with an auction sale in Sacramento, California, on April 14 and 15, 1887. |
