Status

This web site is publicly available and indexed by several major search engines. However, both the site organization and the catalog contents are under continual revision. The catalog currently contains records of 744 paintings by Frederick F. Schafer. Of these, 519 paintings are adequately documented, 82 have only limited information such as their size and medium, and the remaining 143 are known only by a title found, for example, in a nineteenth century auction catalog. There are also records of 26 paintings attributed to other artists who have been or sometimes are confused with Frederick Schafer.

Images have been located and scanned for all but about a dozen of the documented paintings. About a dozen of the located images are not currently available on this web site, pending receipt of publication permission.

• September 2003. • November 2002. A new section discusses Legends and myths about Schafer. About eight paintings added to the catalog.

• January 2002. To help identify paintings that are not by this Schafer, a new section provides examples of work by Other artists with similar signatures. Ten paintings added to the catalog.
