Description: | The distinctive shape of Mount Tamalpais is visible hazily in the background. A calm river enters the scene at the center, sweeps right and then left until it covers the entire width of the painting, then exits at the right front, leaving a small piece of bank and a rock for the viewer to stand on. On the point on the left created by the bend in the river, three cows stand on the river's edge; to the left of the cows is a small grove of trees. The right bank is steep at first, and is surmounted by rocks and a few trees. A bridge or fence appears on the far bank to the left, mirrored in the water. (From a monochrome photograph.) |
