Site: | View along the Hood River with Mount Hood, Oregon, in the background. |
Description: | The white snow cap of Mount Hood with pinkish lower reaches and purplish-grey ranges in front stands in sharp contrast to the cloudless deep blue sky above. The river flows from the center to the left front; a dugout canoe on the bank has three figures, one seated, one standing, and one leaning over, apparently pushing the canoe off shore. White boulders stand on the right side; the sun catches the high parts of trees on the right; there is a beige cliff behind the trees. Driftwood stands on the near shore, dead trees are sprawled across the boulders. (From a color photograph.) |
Note: | The scene is very similar to that of Mount Hood from Hood River [2] and also [Mount Hood from Hood River, Oregon 3]. |
Identification: | The Early California and Western Art Research index gives the size as approx 36 x 52 in and identifies the slide with the Wortsman Stewart Galleries, Inc. offering in 1978. The identification with the later Butterfield & Butterfield sale is probable but not certain. |
