| Description: | The twin peaks of Mount Shasta and Shastina (on the left), with only a small amount of snow, stand in the center below a blue sky with storm-clouds at the upper left; the sun is coming from off the canvas to the right. The view is through a long, deep valley with its bottom and several ridges on the right side. The foreground hillside to the left is clear, with grass, brush, and wildflowers; just beyond is a series of boulders with fallen snags lying across them; beyond the boulders is a conifer forest with three or four tall tress silhouetted agains the sky and two standing, crossed snags the reach just above the mountain's profile. There appears to be a steep rock cliff at the very left edge of the painting. (From a color photograph.) |

| Identification: | The slides were taken by Craigdarroch Castle when a visitor brought the painting in for examination as part of the Castle program to reacquire objects sold at auction in 1909. The slides appear to have been taken before the circa 1990 restoration. |
