[photo] [Yosemite]
Photo credit: William K. Dick, 1974
Size: 20 x 36 in (51 x 91 cm)
Inscription: l/r "T. Hall"
Provenance: With Willoughby-Toschi Gallery, San Francisco, 1974.
Reproductions: William K. Dick photo #99 (color, August 1974)
Attribution: Bridalveil Fall appears as if done by someone who has never visited the scene; the foam at the bottom (normally hidden by trees) seems to extend a hundred feet high; the hanging valley above the cliff top is missing, and one of the Cathedral rocks is missing. The style of the midground and of the nearer cliffs is quite detailed, not usual for Schafer paintings.
Description: A waterfall flows over a grey cliff on the right, falling to the valley floor in a burst of foam. Behind the cliff juts a small peak; on the left is a grey el capitan. At the edge of the river flowing across the center of the painting stand two figures. the river is surrounded with low conifers; on the left is autumn-colored foliage, while on the right a small greenish bush stands amidst a rock outcrop. Two or three trees on the right stand in silhouette against the rocky canyon wall. (From a color photograph.)
Identification: Assigned, descriptive title.
In index(es): questioned attributions
