Description: | A snow-covered mountain ridge rises in the background from the left edge of the painting to a point near the right where a nearer brown cliff intervenes, all against a partly cloudy but bright blue sky. Below the mountains are a hazy beige ridge and a nearer, brown ridge. The valley floor between the brown ridge and the river, which flows from the center around a curve and out the the front left over rapids, is bright green where the sun hits it; there are a few broadleaf trees in the shadow of a cloud. The nearby right bank of the river is covered with debris--boulders, a fallen tree, branches, and driftwood. Nearby three conifers and a dead tree with a bent top stand, not quite penetrating the sky. A bit of dark green is also visible between the rocks and the forest in the distance on the right. (From the painting, 17 December 1989.) |
Note: | There appears to be a single dot over the "a" in the signature. |
